It is true that children learn and exhibit what they experience and not merely what they hear or see. It is the responsibility of the educational system to nurture kids’ curiosities and empower them with enriching experiences so that they grow into strong and confident individuals.

Field trips are an integral part of Happy Minds International’s curriculum and play an important role in strengthening classroom learning. Based on Howard Gardener’s multiple intelligence theory, HMI’s rich curriculum focuses on nourishing different abilities in children. It is elaborate and is designed by the competent team of HMI teachers. Based on children’s environment and familiar experiences, various themes and concepts are chosen. These themes are modified and adapted according to child’s age and milestones. The trips are planned quite meticulously, keeping children’s needs in mind. The child to staff ratio is maintained well, the requirements are discussed with the parents and the plans are executed with parents’ consensus.

Children, too, love to explore the surroundings especially when they are doing it with their classmates. They make full use of the liberty provided to find answers to their inquisitive minds. In fact, the trips are designed in a fashion that kids learn much more than the particular subject. At Happy Minds International, field trips are one of the best ways to inculcate life-skills.

Caring for babies is VERY different from caring for older kids
Sonia designed the Infant centre keeping in mind that babies’ needs are significantly different from those of toddlers and pre-schoolers. For example, every baby has his or her own schedule – specific nap times, meal times and play times which their own body clock and earliest experiences have accustomed them to. It is extremely important to respect this individual schedule in a baby’s earliest months so that he or she can thrive.
To make sure that this individual schedule is strictly adhered to, there is a dedicated caregiver, ‘Didi’ as she is called, for every two babies. Didi is supervised at all times by the teacher in charge of her section. Your child’s teacher and didi know your child’s specific schedule in detail, and make sure that it is maintained exactly as you would wish.
The teacher, who is a qualified professional educator, also makes sure that each of the infants under her care receives the attention and guidance that they need at their particular stage of development. For example, an infant who is just learning to stand will be further motivated by involving her in activities that strengthen her limbs, and will be encouraged verbally and using toys, to learn to balance herself.

Every child is unique and special to us. Our curriculum is primarily based on Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligence Theory.  The curriculum development is an ongoing process at Happy Minds and the activities are designed keeping in focus the specific skill sets and abilities of the child. It is well said that home is the first school and parents are the first teachers. Parents play a vital role in laying a strong foundation to build their children’s personalities. It is amazing to see how dedicatedly and thoughtfully parents work hard to design simple, yet interesting activities for their kids. And what could be better than bringing this bunch of fun and educational ideas into the classroom so as to benefit not one or two, but many more kids. Parents’ volunteering in the classroom has a number of benefits. When parents get involved in their preschooler’s classroom, communication naturally improves between parents and teacher, as well as with other parents. Exchanging different viewpoints makes it easier to assess the needs of the child.  Conducting an activity in a class gives a wider perspective and approach to engage different kids with different intelligence and temperament.  Volunteering makes your child’s settling easier in the school as home and school lives become linked and the child feels at ease to express self both at home and at school.

Happy Minds International practices parents’ volunteering on a regular basis. Recently, it was executed on the occasion of International Literacy Week celebrated from 8^th to 12^th September in HMI’s Powai and Bhandup centers.  It was a fresh twist to the daily classroom activities. Kids were enthralled to see new and zealous faces in their premises. For the parents, too, this was a unique and exciting time. There was a series of creativity and energy flowing in the form of variety of activities.  The storytelling and dramatization swayed away the kids into the world of characters and mystery. It was amazing to see the small eyes growing narrow and wide with the illusion created by the lovely stories and brilliant dramatization.  The non-fire cooking session was a treat not only for the taste buds but for the eyes too. Kids relished making and tasting every bit of the smiley sandwiches and banana lollypops. Parents also conducted the colourful art and craft sessions – be it the painting done with different vegetables or making the bookmarks.

All in all, it is a great camaraderie seen between the kids and the parents during such sessions.  While for the kids it is fun to do new activities with new teachers; the parents are equally happy and content to experience the school environment.
